🔸️ “To be freed from the desire for worldly things!” 🔸

We read in Genesis chapters 13 and 14, the two moments that Abraham was tested for the worldly matter. Firstly, the moment when he and Lot found that their flocks were so large that they could not dwell together… Because Abraham was the eldest and he was called by God to the land of Canaan, it was easy and methodical for him to choose the land! But selflessly and generously, he told Lot to choose first. Humanly speaking, Lot chose the best. Yes, the land of Sodom!

But neither Abraham nor Lot realized that ‘God is silently observing this process’ – just as He watches over all our money matters! God was much rejoiced by the selflessness that He saw with Abraham. God spoke immediately to Abraham that He would give his descendants the whole land, which Abraham could see with ‘four directions’ everywhere. This includes the area chosen by Lot! Today, nearly 4000 years later, we see that God has preserved His Word. Abraham’s descendants (Jews) live in the place that God gave to Abraham. This is the way of God. The meek will inherit the Earth!!

We see again in Genesis chapter 14 that Abraham behaved with great generosity as a true servant of God. Abraham redeemed the people of Sodom and his goods from his enemies. But the king of Sodom submitted all his goods to Abraham. But Abraham refused to accept even a single thread or sandal strap or anything from them. He said, “My God the Most High, is the Creator of Heaven and Earth….. I don’t want anything that belongs to you” (Gen.14: 22,23).

Even this conversation, God listened silently. Immediately He appeared to Abraham and said that he would be rewarded by God (Gen.15:1). If we honour God, He will surely honour us.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father! Like Abraham, who had spurned worldly relations, kindly be gracious for us to live our lives that honouring You only in all our dignities! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
