🔸️ Set your minds on things above, not on Earthly things 🔸️

When Gideon assembled an army to fight against Israel’s enemies, he had 32,000 Israelites with him. But God knows that not all of them are wholehearted. So God filtered them out. First, those who feared were sent home. Yet there were 10,000 remaining. They were brought to the riverside and checked up. Only 300 of them won the test and were approved by God! 10,000 men drank the river-water to quench their thirst, and by this method, God chose who would be worthy of being in Gideon’s army! They didn’t realize that they were being tested!! 9,700 people knelt to quench their thirst, forgetting all about the “awakening feeling” of the enemy. Only 300 people drank water by lapping with their hands to their mouths, in standing position.

God tests us only in the ordinary things of our daily lives! It is in our attitude to money, worldly honour and worldly pleasures. Often we too do not realize that God is testing us, as He tested Gideon’s army. Jesus Christ warned us not to be burdened by “worldly concerns” (Luke 21:34).

In his counsel to the Christians in the city of Corinth, Paul says, “those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use the world as though they did not make full use of it (1 Corinthians 7:29-31). We can solve our thirst ….. but we should fold our hands to drink as much as we need the minimum! Our mind should be looking for the higher things, not the Earthly things!

Prayer:
Heavenly Father! Apart from our Earthly ‘needs’, please have mercy on us, to seek only for things above! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
